Tennis Complex Serving It Up

The new 30-court Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center was named the South Carolina Tennis Facility of the Year. Florence hosts the USTA SC Mixed Doubles State Championship.

New complexes break ground

The City of Florence broke ground on two new sport complexes in 2016. In April 2016, officials broke ground on a $5 million gym that will feature three basketball courts. It will sit on Barnes Street near downtown. Officials also broke ground in May 2016 on a $7 million, 14 field soccer complex near the intersection of I-95 and U.S. 76.

Motorsports are Part of Heritage

The racing tradition runs deep throughout the Pee Dee region of South Carolina. The most notable racing attraction in SC is Darlington Raceway, home to the track that's "Too Tough to Tame." Join in the excitement on Labor Day weekend with the NASCAR XFINITY Series VFW Sport Clips Help A Hero 200 and the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Bojangles' Southern 500 as well as the Darlington Car Hauler Parade and Festival.

The Place to Play

Tournaments are serious business for the Florence Area Sports Council. Girls' fast-pitch softball, boys' baseball, men's slow-pitch, soccer, youth and adult tennis, summer collegiate baseball -- games start in March and run through October with championships aplenty to cap it off. Sports deliver an economic impact of nearly $100 million annually.
